As most of you know, Virtual Airlines have a tendency to come and go with great frequency. Since I have been associated with this hobby (December of 2004), I have seen some really great Virtual Airlines emerge with great Public Relations, Livery, and Websites. However, just as quickly as these airlines appear, they slowly slip into stagnation and then, eventually, cease to exist.
Admittedly, it is not easy to keep an active Virtual Airlines. Like any hobby, activity is cyclical. To be recognized as a great virtual airline, it requires:
- UNYIELDING desire to NOT ACCEPT FAILURE
- Endless HOURS of unpaidm and unrecognized work
- PASSION and DEDICATION for a hobby that generally offers nothing in return
- A CEO with great VISION
- A DEDICATED staff to support the vision
- LOYAL pilots that can APPRECIATE the hard work and effort that goes into such an elaborate organization
- Friendship, comradery, community, and helpfulness
Slipstream Virtual Airways has been able to survive 4 YEARS of successful operations because we have been fortunate enough to meet many of these requirements. Moreover, we have done this with one idea in mind:
With the many years of dedication that you, the pilots, have given us; it is time for Slipstream Airways to return the favor.Originally Posted by Slipstream Airways Mission Statement
Building on the success of last years celebration, Slipstream Airways has decided that beginning midnight July 27, 2010, and running through midnight of August 28, 2010, Slipstream Virtual Airways is going to celebrate 4 years of operations by making all aircraft in the fleet Class I.
This means, that all pilots will be able to fly any aircraft in the Slipstream Airways network regardless of pilot class. So, if you are currently a Class I captain and would like to fly a Class V aircraft (such as the MD-11F), you will be able to do so. Our entire network will be open to you without restriction!
It must be made clear, that you can not deviate from the Slipstream Airways network. So, you can not change aircraft on their designated routes (swapping a 737 for a 767). The network MUST remain in tact during this event. Additionally, this does not mean that you can fly anywhere you want. Flights that are completed MUST be done from the Slipstream Airways flight schedule.
Thank you for sharing the last 4 years with us. We know that there are many other virtual airlines to choose from, whether they be fictional or real-world based. The fact that many of you have stuck it out with us through the ups and downs is humbling.
Thank you all again! Lets celebrate! See you all in the skies!
The dedicated staff of Slipstream Virtual Airways

, this was the first VA that i ever joined and i did have my doubts, not about the VA but about myself and whether i could be a decent member of a VA with my limited knowledge. So after i'd joined i sent Chris a PM saying just that, what did i get in reply? Not just one line saying oh well tough luck if you can't do it don't bother, but a full page reply explaining everything i needed to do and his expectations of the future of Slipstream, but more importantly a friendliness and welcome and willingness to help that goes beyond the norm. I did leave for a little while (like the fool i am) but came to my senses and when i re-applied what did i get??????Not just an OK you're back but a fantastic, we've kept your bed warm for you
Good hear forums up again
